Meet Emily the Intern!

We are delighted to have a fantastic, ongoing relationship with Boston University (BU). Every year, since 2016, we have welcomed a number of interns who come and work with us over a few months to get a feel for what happens in the national youth theatre company. Recently we welcomed Emily Pollack to the team and we thought you’d like to get to know her a little better. If you’re joining us for our holiday drama workshops across Sydney or around the office over the next few weeks, be sure to say hi 🙂

Where are you from?
The small lake-side city of Ithaca in New York! I’m a great believer that New York is the most beautiful state in all of the US. I call it “the poor man’s Ireland” and would take it over the Big Apple any day of the week.

What are you studying?
I am double majoring in English and Film/TV Studies with a minor in the Theater Arts at Brandeis University.

Favourite theatre experience?
Every summer I take my baby brother to a kid’s show at a local theatre then we go pig out on some ice cream. One time, after the show, I asked him what flavor he was going to get and he said, “I don’t need ice cream, I think I’m happy enough.”

Favourite thing about Sydney?
Banana bread. Hands down. My entire family knows my Mom’s recipe by heart and we are all big, big fans. When I find myself missing home I grab a slice at the nearest cafe and instantly feel better. It heals all wounds.

Favourite thing about ATYP?
I love how ATYP encourages the sharing and forming of ideas from everyone they come in contact with, from young writer to their audience members, but especially the kids they work with in the workshops! Theater is only possible when there are ideas in the air to grab from and I find that kids usually have the best ones.

Where do you want to be in 5 years?
Hopefully, I’ll be able to make acting and writing my full-time career, collaborating with all the amazing creative people I have met and will meet along the way.
