Youth Advisory Board

Calling all young theatre lovers

If you are interested in learning how the national youth theatre selects plays, identifies projects and works with playwrights to develop scripts, then join ATYP’s Youth Advisory Board (YABbies). The YABbies are our most important resource, a dedicated committee of 50 young people (aged 13-26 years old) from all over Australia who meet online and in person between March and December.

Working directly with Artistic Director, Fraser Corfield, and our youngest staff member, Workshops and Administration Assistant Emily Johnson, along with members of ATYP’s creative team, the YABbies get a unique insight into how a professional theatre company works. Most importantly, the YABbies become directly involved in creative planning and the discussions that determine the company’s programs.

2023 Program

In 2023, YABbies will get the chance to:

  • Receive exclusive discounts on ATYP workshops, merchandise and show tickets;
  • Review professional and indie theatre productions;
  • Provide input and suggestions around ATYP’s programs and offerings;
  • Learn about the governance of the national youth theatre company;
  • Attend Q&A sessions with the creative teams behind each of our productions;
  • Plan and produce a scratch night in The Rebel Theatre;
  • Assess scripts as part of our youth script assessment panel;
  • Meet like-minded young people who also love all things theatre;
  • And much more!

All YABbies must be able to commit to attending a minimum of 5 meetings.

These meetings will take place both online AND in-person at 5:00pm – 6:30pm Sydney time.

2023 meeting dates TBC.

We are looking for young people who are:

  • Between 13-26 years old
