Read, Greet, Act, Repeat 🙌

I’m in my last few weeks with ATYP before I sign off for a year to welcome a new little boy into our family. And by that, I mean both my family and my ATYP family. I can bring him into rehearsals and workshops before he can walk or talk, can’t I?

I am thrilled to be handing over to the incredibly competent Johanna Mulholland, who will be working closely with Fraser over the next 12 months to steer the company ever closer toward our new home on Pier 2/3.

Despite the fact that I am moving more slowly every day, things have absolutely not slowed down at ATYP! We’ve greatly enjoyed working with 20 emerging writers and performers who wrote and filmed monologues for our digital scratch night, RoomWorks. A huge shout out to our fabulous co-producers, Alexandra Punch and Emily Buxton, who negotiated over 200 applications, 9 panellists, 5 mentors, 3 workshop tutors and 1 editor! Scripts will be available on our website in coming weeks, so keep an eye out.

Weekly workshops have started back in person this week at the Eighteen80 Hall and the Seymour Centre. We’ve had a great response as our community cautiously yet enthusiastically return to face-to-face classes. There are still limited places available in our ATYP Online drama class for those still wanting to join.

The always funny Darren Gilshenan will be running a Pro-Series masterclass for anyone aged 18-26 who want to learn the art of comic acting. And speaking of funny people, the winner of this years’ Rebel Wilson Comedy Commission, Victoria Zerbst, has started a blog documenting her process of writing her comedy musical with ATYP. Read her first post here.

Because we aren’t doing enough things, we’ve also launched the ATYP Corporate workshops program. ATYP tutors will teach executives and recent graduates the intrinsic skills every actor learns in performance and communication, which will give them confidence in presentations, difficult conversations and in everyday office life.

So while I’m about to step into a very different world of sleepless nights and baby cuddles, I’m also so excited to watch the exciting journey of ATYP to see just what else the company will achieve over the next 12 months.
