THEN

About

In October 2013, Yve Blake created the interactive website WhoWereWe.com in which she asked strangers to answer one question, ‘Who do they feel they used to be?’. So far, strangers from 154 cities around the world have contributed more than 1000 stories, voicemails, pictures and playlists. Then is a vibrant collage of these memories.

Yve brings these collected histories to life onstage with ‘Sheer Ingenuity’ (TimeOut) in a celebration of the idiots, strangers and heroes that we used to be. Her music samples everything from orchestral flourishes to flushing toilets and rarely misses the opportunity for a dance break. Come and see the hilarious, original, and slightly odd styling of this new theatrical sensation.

If you’re wondering why we’re bringing a show from overseas, it’s because we’ve asked her to come home. Yve grew up with us at The Wharf. Two years ago she set sail to the Edinburgh Fringe and in the short time since has presented work of various shapes and sizes at The National Theatre, Soho Theatre, Battersea Arts Centre, Roundhouse, The Bush Theatre and across the UK. We think she’s something special, and we suspect you will too.

The moment Yve Blake comes onto the stage something truly unexpected happens, one sits up and really listens.

The New Current

Yve’s work is totally now. In London there’s nobody like her, nobody doing this quality of musical comedy with the content so bleedingly current.
