What’s on July 2023

Hey everyone!

It’s July at ATYP and I’m so excited to share with you all what is happening this month!

My name is Aden Abeleda (he/him) and I’m the Development Coordinator at ATYP which means that I assist with all of ATYP’s fundraising campaigns and initiatives! Since starting in February, I’ve had a blast working with the team as well as learning and seeing the range of amazing programs that ATYP has to offer to young people.

ATYP recently wrapped up our 2023 Annual Appeal and I am thrilled to say that we reached our goal in raising money to support ATYP’s national writing programs. On behalf of everyone at ATYP, thank you to everyone who donated. Thanks to our generous community, more emerging playwrights will be able to develop their skills and build their creative confidence!

Speaking of writing, one of the big things happening this week for ATYP is National Studio! Led by our brilliant Resident Dramaturg Jane FitzGerald, young people aged 18 to 26 have just begun their week-long residency at Bundanon where they are being mentored by some of Australia’s best writers.

Coming up in July is the start of our Semester 2 Workshops! We have weekly drama classes running for students Years K to 12 where they’ll learn and develop performance skills which culminate in an end-of-semester showcase performance. Classes commence on the 24th of July so head over to our Workshops page on our website to book your spot!

One of our upcoming workshop programs is Young Industry Studio for young creatives who want to take their skills to the next level! Auditions are currently open and close on July 17 for those in Years 7 to 12. For young actors aged 10-13, auditions are open for Reboot written by Michael Costi, the winner of the 2022 Foundation Commission. There are still audition spots open on the 22nd to 24th of July so make sure to book your audition if you want to be a part of this world premiere performing in November at The Rebel Theatre!

Applications are also still open for ATYP’s Foundation Commissions! Two plays, one for 10-13-year-old performers and one for 14-17-year-old performers, will be awarded to playwrights and published by our partners Playlab. Applications close at 12pm on Thursday 27 July so make sure to head to the Writing section of our website for more information.

Make sure to say hi the next time you’re down at Pier 2/3. Looking forward to meeting you all soon!

Cheers,
Aden
Development Coordinator
