What’s on August 2023

Hi Barbies,

Welcome back to another month at ATYP! We’ve all been busy little bees in the ATYP office—applying for funding, planning our 2024 season, and preparing for our very special birthday party 🥳

That’s right, in little over a month ATYP will celebrate our diamond anniversary (aka it’s our 60th birthday) and it’s time to celebrate! We’ve got some killer events lined up to celebrate 60 years of youth theatre, but you’ll find out more about those very soon…

For now, let me run you through all the goings-on for ATYP this month. Weekly Drama Workshops are in full swing with lots of young people attending classes in our world-class venue. These talented young performers will spend the next two terms building on their performance skills that will be showcased in The Rebel Theatre at our end-of-semester performance weekend.

ATYP held the annual Intersection Festival earlier this month. It was incredible to see so many talented students from around the country come together in The Rebel Theatre for two days of jaw-dropping performances. Congratulations to all involved, it was a huge success (and a huge slay).

Applications for the 2023 Foundation Commissions have officially closed. We received a huge volume of applications, so thank you to everyone that applied—it warms our hearts to see so many writers are passionate about providing relevant and engaging stories for young people to tell.

Kate Walder’s Soul Trading is playing in The Rebel Theatre from 6-10 September. Winner of the 2019 Junior Foundation Commission, Soul Trading explores the relationship between young people and technology in a dystopian future where AI is part of everyday life. You don’t want to miss this one!

And finally, a huge thank you to everyone that donated to our annual appeal, Press Play on Writing. With your help, we were able to raise $30,200 towards keeping our core writing programs alive. This money will help ATYP continue to nurture and inspire emerging writers (another huge slay).

That’s all from me (for now 👀). Hope you all have an amazing month, and I hope to see you around our venue soon <3

With love,
Bec
