November already! What’s on at ATYP? 📅

It’s November! Last month we dragged the metaphorical ATYP go-cart to the top of the hill and now we get to climb in and ride the sucker down to Christmas. With the wind in our hair and absolutely no brakes, we’re careening toward the end of our 2019 programs. If you listen carefully you’ll hear the squeals of exhilaration and mild panic as workshop participants and their tutors prepare for the end of year performances.

For young women aged 18- 26, applications open this month for the Rebel Wilson Comedy Commission and the Rose Byrne Emerging Female Leader in the Arts scholarship. These two exceptional opportunities are open to emerging professional artists around the country. One offers a full commission to a young adult writer, supported by ATYP’s Resident Dramaturg Jane FitzGerald, to develop a new script from concept to rehearsal draft. The other gives a young Artistic leader $10,000 to spend on their professional development. For details, check the ATYP website and our social media channels from 11 November.

Any aspiring actors who are planning to audition for the nation’s leading drama programs, get in quick to secure your place in our Audition Intensive. This masterclass is tailor-made to help you hone your pieces for casting, auditions, and to build your confidence as an actor. Lead by industry professionals who have run the auditions for some of Australia’s most prestigious acting schools, this is a unique opportunity to get an insight into how to put your best foot forward.

Our mentored playwrights in Perth and Sydney are finalising their thirty-minute scripts this month before final readings. Fresh Ink is always one of the highlights on the ATYP calendar. I get to rehearse readings of the plays with four young actors from each State before we present to audiences. If you’re passionate about Australian stories and want to see what the next generation of writers is working on please come along. The readings will take place in Perth on Saturday 30th November and in Sydney on Friday 6th December. Keep an eye on our socials for venue details.

For those parents looking ahead to January and ways to make the most of the holiday season, sit down with your kids and check out what our Summer workshop program has to offer. Claudene has put together a wonderful range of creative activities for anyone aged between 4 and 18. The holiday workshops are a chance for them to make friends and have fun while they learn some top-notch drama skills.

NSW drama teachers who are coming to Sydney for OnStage week next February, don’t forget to book now for your ATYP workshop. There are two exceptional opportunities to choose featuring icons of Australian theatre and film; Monologue Technique with Anita Hegh and Play Building with Darren Gilshenan will give your students the opportunity to work with leaders in the Australian theatre industry. Jump online here to secure your place.

This month will be huge fun at ATYP. We hope you’ll join us.

Until next month.
