Meet the 2020 Foundation Commission winners!

Junior Foundation (10-13 year old performers)
Shack by George Kemp

George is a Sydney based actor, director, writer and educator. He trained at London’s Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and is absolutely thrilled to be writing this year’s ATYP Foundation Commission.

As an actor, he has appeared on stage for Sydney Theatre Company, Sport for Jove, Pop-Up Globe, The Hampstead Theatre (UK), The Young Vic (UK) and the national/international tours of The Play That Goes Wrong and Peter Pan Goes Wrong. He has appeared most recently on screen in Doctor, Doctor and Drunk History, as well as multiple national and international advertising campaigns. 

As an educator and director, George works with young people and adults at NIDA, Bell Shakespeare, ATYP, Sport for Jove, Brent St. Studios and Excelsia College and as a writer, his credits include Greta (Sydney Fringe) and As Hamlet Likes It (Sport for Jove), as well as fiction and non-fiction contributions to Sweaty City Magazine and Audrey Journal.

Senior Foundation (14-17 year old performers)
Cry Havoc by Emme Hoy

Shortlisted for the 2019 Bruntwood Prize and recipient of the Belvoir Philip Parson’s Fellowship, Emme completed her Master of Fine Arts in Writing for Performance at NIDA.

Her original television series Nobody’s Perfect was longlisted for AWG’S Primetime TV Competition, shortlisted in the ABC/AWG Laugh Out Loud Competition, the Monte Miller Awards and was a semi-finalist in WeScreenplay’s international Television competition. In 2020 she won the AWG/Audible On Air Competition with her original series Left Behind.

In 2017 Emme’s play Extinction of the Learned Response was shortlisted for the Patrick White Playwright’s Award, the Griffin Award and the 2018 Theatre 503 Playwriting Award; and her co-written play Bathory Begins was awarded the 2017 ATYP co-commission.

Emme’s plays include: Salem (NIDA); Strangers (Bondi Feast); Five Year Plan (Silent Theatre); St Joan (Sydney Theatre Company); La Finta Giardiniera (Queensland Conservatorium), Extinction of the Learned Response (Belvoir’s 25a); Bathory Begins (ATYP, Q Theatre) and Monsters (Malthouse Theatre).

Emme currently has various projects in development, including an audio series with Audible.
