Happy Holidays!
Merry Christmas! It’s that time at ATYP where everyone is as happy as a dog with two tails. Santa’s on his way, Australia managed to win a test match, the 2017 ATYP season brochures have landed like a new Beyonce album, our writing and scholarship programs are presenting their final readings around the country, and the Semester Ensemble performances are raising the roof in Studio 1. Prepare the mic drop and the casual strut off stage… this year is nearly done.
As we sign off this December, I’d like to acknowledge the extraordinary achievements of our young artists this year. They have entertained us, challenged themselves, shared ideas, advised on the development of new work, selected new commissions for emerging and established writers, staged award winning productions, started professional careers, worked with magnificent companies, traveled around Australia and across the world. At our home at the Wharf, in schools, and in workshops around the country we’ve had the chance to be inspired by the insight and imaginations of young Australians.
On behalf of us all at ATYP, I’d like to wish our young participants and their families a very merry Christmas and a safe, cheeky and cheerful New Year. To the exceptional artists of the Australian theatre industry who bring us so much colour and joy, thank you for all the time and energy given so freely and with such grace – we wish you a restful festive season and a full and fruitful 2017.
Of course, before we know it next year will be here. Already there is much to look forward to… but we can save that for January.
