Intersection Festival gives students and teachers the opportunity to work with ATYP to present new Australian stories. This program offers skills development in acting and analysing scripts for students, along with professional development in directing for teachers. The festival culminates in your students presenting new short plays specifically written for young actors.
Registrations for Intersection Festival close on Friday 14 March 2025.
The Festival will take place over three days from 5-7 August 2025.

The Intersection short plays are suitable for Year 8–11 students.
Intersection Festival is available to schools in NSW and Australia-wide.
The Festival Process:
Step 1: ATYP will send your school a collection of 10 seven-minute plays written by Australia’s finest emerging writers with a range of scripts for 1–7+ young actors.
Step 2: Your class selects up to 10 pieces they would like to rehearse and present in their classroom or theatre.
Step 3: Schools film and upload the performances.
Step 4: The ATYP team selects 10 works per night to be showcased at the national Intersection Festival in The Rebel Theatre, Pier 2/3.
By registering, you will receive the following resources:
- 10 new Australian short plays written for young people
- Early access to the currently unpublished Intersection 2025 short plays and monologues
- A complete guide on how to read and analyse a script
- Access to ATYP’s Director’s Series, a series of videos on directing theatre for young people

The chance for one of your groups to be selected to perform their piece in The Rebel Theatre at ATYP, along with a rehearsal with a professional Director on the day.
