WAVES OF MIGRATION (YRS 5-6) EXAMPLE LESSON
Waves of Migration Unit (Yrs 5-6)
In this unit, students will explore the experiences of migrants in Australia through history including the period of the gold rush. They will explore and consider the diverse push and pull reasons people might leave their country of birth to start a new life elsewhere.
Students will explore migration and change through a range of drama and literacy exercises and quality literature including The Arrival by Shaun Tan and Waves by Donna Rawlins.
Here is a sneak peek of one of the exercises, ‘Poem’. In Poem the students use a line they’ve written from a letter home to create a group poem, working out links and connections in their writing.
