CASTING CALL – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performers

CASTING CALL

Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) is the national youth theatre company. We exist to connect young people with the professional theatre industry locally, regionally and nationally.

ATYP’s Education team, in partnership with the University of Sydney, is producing a series of educational videos designed to demonstrate how drama can be used to explore different areas of the school curriculum. The videos will form part of a larger unit of work made available to schools who register on the ATYP On Demand online learning platform. The particular unit we are casting for focuses on Indigenous Australian history, and as such we are seeking to cast a number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.

The team from ATYP will be shooting at the ARA Darling Quarter Theatre in Sydney on 1st, 2nd and 6th October 2020 (during the September/October school holidays).

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a group of eight young indigenous performers aged 9-12 to be participants in these filmed activities. Prior drama experience and an interest in performing are desirable.

Participants will be required to follow instructions from a teaching artist and take part in activities as though it was a regular drama lesson. There is no line learning required.

This is a voluntary opportunity. Successful applicants will receive a full scholarship to attend an ATYP School Holiday Workshop Program of their choice in our January 2021 program. Any participants under the age of 18 will require permission from their parent or guardian to be involved.

WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU

If you’re interested in being involved please email Rowan Bate, ATYP Education Coordinator on [email protected] attaching a recent photograph and including a short introduction to help us get to know you.
