What’s on in October 🎃
Hello all and welcome to October!
The end of the year is swiftly approaching but activity here at Pier 2/3 is ramping up! Before I dive into our exciting updates for the month, I’ll take a couple of lines to introduce myself. My name is Emily and I am the youngest team member in the ATYP office 👶. I started my traineeship in the Workshop department in April and it’s been a whirlwind of holiday programs and weekly classes since. I’ve met some amazing theatre professionals and even more amazing young performers and I’ve loved every minute of it.
Past the Shallows has made the long journey up the coast and landed in Sydney harbour. After a knock-out season down in Tasmania, we are very excited for opening night here in The Rebel Theatre on Thursday 13th October. Thanks to all who helped Past the Shallows come to fruition down in Tasmania!
In other exciting news, the ATYP staff are working hard to prepare for the Walsh Bay Arts Precinct Open Day on Saturday, 8 October. This is a great opportunity for the public to visit Walsh Bay and get a taste of the incredible work produced by Australia’s leading arts organisations. ATYP will be running taster workshops which you can book here. Overall, it’s going to be an awesome day with the whole precinct coming to life with activity – we are all very excited!
Our Semester 2 classes will return on the 15th of October for the final term of 2022. Performance Weekend for our classes will be on the 3rd and 4th of December, so make sure to keep an eye out for when tickets go on sale. I’m really intrigued to see what our ATYP kiddos will come up with to finish off the year with a bang.
And last but certainly not least, I’m thrilled to announce that tickets to our Young Industry Studio production of Shack are officially on sale! Here’s a lil bit about the show:
Antarctica. A blizzard. Nine school kids are stranded in a shack, on the bottom of the world, with a sinister force circling outside… Our young explorers, in the ghostly footsteps of Ernest Shackleton, question their place in the natural and social order of the world as the limits of their courage are pushed into uncharted waters. Safety (and sanity) seem to be drifting farther and farther away.)
It has been my absolute pleasure to work with the young performers of Shack as Stage Manager on this production, they never fail to make me laugh and make me cry. The talent displayed by these young performers is exceptional and I am very excited to show the world what they’ve been working incredibly hard on. Well phew, we have come to the end of my introduction and it is sadly time for us to part ways. With a month full of exciting activity ahead we hope to see you at the Pier soon!
