The National Studio

The National Studio is an invaluable mentoring opportunity connecting young writers with three of Australia’s leading playwrights. Each year, over the course of a week, 20 emerging professionals aged 18-26 are brought to Bundanon, Arthur Boyd’s beautiful property situated on the Shoalhaven river, Ilaroo, NSW.

For the first eight years participants came together to develop their craft and in the process created a 7 minute monologue for 17 year old actors as part of ‘The Voices Project’. In 2016 and 2017, the brief for the writers changed slightly to incorporate works for one, two or more actors and the production Intersection was born. Over the week, writers work together (with guidance from our mentors) to develop a united world, then individually they will create scenes and monologues within that world. A selection of these pieces are then chosen to be a part of a showcase production which is presented at the start of each year.

More information on writers and mentors from past years can be found under the main National Studio listing on the website. More information about the Voices Project (2011-2016) can be found HERE.

In 2018 the National Studio will be held during August. Applications will open in late May so keep an eye on our social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) for launch details.
