Like many individuals and companies both nationally and around the world, ATYP has been impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
ATYP will continue to act on the advice from the Federal and State governments, the Department of Health, NSW Health (and other state health departments where applicable) ensuring our community of young people, parents, carers, artists, audiences, staff, and board are kept informed and safe through this difficult time.
Should you have any questions on a particular program or department, please read on to see if it is addressed in the FAQs answered below. If you would still like to get in touch with the ATYP team, you can email us at [email protected] or call us on (02) 9270 2400.
In January 2022 we received the keys and moved into our brand new home on Pier 2/3 in the Walsh Bay Arts Precinct. Prior to moving into our new venue, ATYP was using temporary accommodation and hired-out spaces for our programs. ATYP’s new home was purpose-built so that we can deliver productions, writing programs, workshops and all our other programs under the same roof in our forever home.
The NSW Government has delivered a custom-built facility for ATYP which includes a theatre, two rehearsal rooms, office space and a meeting room all equipped to deliver professional theatre productions. The project has been in discussion with the NSW State Government since 1998 and in order to make it a reality, ATYP has been required to raise $2.6 million to contribute to the fit-out and maintenance of our spaces.
ATYP acknowledges the generosity of our Pier Group who have contributed to our Capital Campaign so far, most notably the significant contribution of ATYP alumna Rebel Wilson, the Theatre’s namesake, who generously donated $1 million towards our new home. The Capital Campaign has been a huge undertaking for the company, and we are still yet to hit our target of $2.6 million. If you would like to discuss the Capital Campaign for the new home please email Johanna at [email protected] or give our Development team a call on (02) 9270 2400.

Live theatre is a constantly evolving art form and a lot can change along the journey from concept to production. ATYP will do our best to share this information before our events and we apologise in advance for any missed communication regarding production effects. These warnings may include, but are not limited to:
ATYP is a not-for-profit charity that receives just 7% of its operational funding from the government. The remaining 93% is sourced from a combination of box office income, private sector support and workshop revenue, though recently ATYP has also benefited from some short-term COVID relief support.
ATYP relies on our generous community of supporters to help us make an impact and continue to enrich the lives of young people through transformative theatre experiences each and every year. It allows us to develop new work through commissions, provide scholarships to young people who face disadvantages, develop and create our bespoke workshops and writing programs, and share theatre with young people Australia-wide.
ATYP has several major giving avenues including General Support, ATYP Scholarship Fund and ATYP Production Fund.
General Support – Donating to General Support allows us to channel your donation to the place it’s most needed, helping us support the diverse range of programs the company runs each year.
ATYP Scholarship Fund – Giving to ATYP Scholarship Fund allows us to continue to commit 10% of workshop places across our programs to be allocated for scholarship recipients to support young people experiencing disadvantage, or those from regional communities.
ATYP Production Fund – Giving to the ATYP Production Fund ensures we can create brave new productions that set high benchmarks for youth theatre globally. This support enables us to stage new voices that capture the interests, experiences and imaginations of modern Australian young people.
We greatly appreciate your support!
All donations are acknowledged on our website and in our new venue.

We love to read new, exciting works for young performers. When we receive a play, we will forward it to our youth advisory panel of ATYPicals who will read the piece and provide us with feedback. It will take around 3-4 months for us to get back to you.
Please make sure you use page numbers in your play. It can be a PDF or Word compatible document.
If you have a play you’d like the panel to consider, please email it to [email protected]
