🔥 June eNews: Attention Writers and Actors 📢

Welcome to June at ATYP.

This month’s introduction comes to you from the courtyard of Riverside Theatres in Parramatta where we’ve just closed the premiere season of Follow Me Home by Lewis Treston. I’m heading back to the office after a month exploring the world of the 18,000 young people in NSW who need to access homeless services. Plans are now underway for regional and national touring. It was a privilege to work on this beautiful new Australian play. We are hoping it gets a long life.

June seems to be all about playwriting at ATYP. Applications close this month for the National Studio. This is Australia’s leading professional development initiative for emerging artists aged 18 – 26.

We are also very excited to be announcing two new playwriting opportunities. Following the success of the National Studio, ATYP is partnering Carclew in Adelaide and Country Arts SA to deliver The Writing Place, a residency open specifically to regional artists from around the country. This program gives young people living outside capital cities the opportunity to spend a week with three leading Australian writers honing skills in storytelling. The program plans to bring uniquely regional voices and stories to the national stage. For full details check out the Writing Place page.

We are also proud to be partnering with the Riverside’s National Theatre of Parramatta to offer The Martin-Lysicrates Prize. This commissioning opportunity is open to playwrights of any age from anywhere in Australia. Writers must submit the first 15 minutes of a play written for audiences aged between 10 and 13. Three plays will be shortlisted and presented by a team of professionals to a young audience in Parramatta who will vote to determine the winner. For further information check out the website here.

Of course, for young people wanting to get involved in workshops at ATYP, now is the time to jump online and see what’s on offer over the winter school holidays. It’s the perfect time to plan your trip to Sydney to work with some of the country’s leading artists. Our program is online and places are available in most classes. Get in quickly to secure your spot at the earlybird price.

June is also the month we raise money for ATYP. There’s a wonderful video for this years Annual Appeal campaign – if you have a few moments please have a look. ATYP is a registered charity and it’s your support that enables us to keep our doors open every year. We are also grateful to Create NSW for matching donations up to $54,000 for our On Demand platform, so your donation will be doubled. Anything you can give is hugely appreciated and makes a difference to the lives of young people around the country.

I hope you’re staying warm as the winter weather starts to kick in.

Until next month.
Fraser
