Work Experience

EXPERIENCE WORKING AT THE NATIONAL YOUTH THEATRE COMPANY

Calling young people who have a passion for live performance and the exciting world of technical theatre and production.

ATYP is pleased to offer an immersive Work Experience program where students join a theatre company for a week to find out what happens behind the scenes. This unique experience is available for 8 students (four each week) currently enrolled in Year 10 Drama or Year 11 Drama or Entertainment.

There will be two intakes, with the first group of students joining the ATYP team for the production week of Follow Me Home (Monday, 7 June – Friday, 11 June 2021 ) and the second group joining Soul Trading and Shack  (Monday, 18 October – Friday 22 October 2021) working on production week through to opening night.

In ATYP’s Work Experience you will experience the day-to-day running of a theatre company and learn about the different roles and functions of each department including Production, Learning, Marketing, Development and Writing. You will also work closely with the ATYP Production Manager and technical crew on the production, learning practical skills in stage management and technical operation.

Entry by application. Eight students will be selected. Students in regional/ interstate schools are encouraged to apply, however, ATYP is unable to cover travel and accommodation costs.

ATYP is an amazing organisation and I’ve really loved learning about what all the staff do and how it all works. Watching the rehearsal processes, actors at work and meeting playwrights/production teams has been so exciting and a real privilege” – Elizabeth Player, Work Experience 2019
