Announcing the winners of ATYP’s 2022 Foundation Commissions!
Junior Foundation (10-13-year-old performers)
The Reboot by Michael Costi
Michael is a screenwriter and playwright based in Sydney.
Recent writing credits include: Two Twenty Somethings Decide Never to Be Stressed about Anything Ever Again. Ever. produced by TheatreWorks for the Melbourne Fringe Festival and debuted in Sydney at the Kings Cross Theatre and later staged for Canberra Youth Theatre.
He also wrote The Overcoat, an original musical that premiered as part of Belvoir’s inaugural 25A season and the narration for Karakorum: A Medieval Musical Journey produced by the Brandenburg Orchestra and narrated by David Wenham.
He was also granted a place in Belvoir Street Theatre’s Philip Parsons Writers Lab (2020) and graduated from NIDA with a Master’s Degree in Writing for Performance (2017).
Senior Foundation (14-17-year-old performers)
Scab by Danny Ball
Danny Ball is an actor, writer, producer and educator. He grew up in Melbourne to Italian-Australian parents before moving to Sydney, graduating from NIDA with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting) in 2016.
Recent theatre credits include The Italians (Belvoir / Malocchio), Cleansed (Old Fitz), Much Ado About Nothing (Bell Shakespeare), The Players Tour (Bell Shakespeare), Mercury Fur and The Serpent’s Teeth (KXT), Blackrock (Seymour Centre / White Box).
Screen credits include: Totally, Completely Fine (Stan / Sundance Now), A Beginner’s Guide to Grief (SBS), Home and Away (Network 7), KICK (SBS).
Danny’s debut full-length play The Italians was programmed as part of Belvoir’s 2022 25A season and was filmed by Australian Theatre Live. He has written two short plays for young people, Adidas Girls and Castle, both performed at Illawarra Performing Arts Centre as part of the Drama Studio’s Final Draft program. He is currently developing several projects for screen.
Danny will be performing in a one-man adaptation of Christos Tsiolkas’ iconic novel Loaded as part of Malthouse’s 2023 season, written by Tsiolkas and Dan Giovannoni, and directed by Stephen Nicolazzo.
