Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s party!’—Robin Williams
Spring has sprung and it’s all happening at The Wharf! September is another jam packed month for ATYP and we can’t wait to see you.
First, an update! ATYP recently conducted some extensive research with all our participants (thanks to those of you who took part) and we learned that a whopping 91% of our thousands of respondents found that not only did they have fun and learn new skills, but that their experience at ATYP had a positive or very positive effect on their overall mental health and wellbeing. This is a result we are very proud of and speaks highly of the quality of our programs, staff and commitment to the ongoing well being of young Australians. We’re looking forward to presenting the full findings of this research later this year.
Our Spring school holiday workshop program is now on sale. From creating your own game show to a short film-making course, our tutors are busy preparing to help you or your kids spend two fantastic weeks performing, learning and making new friends.
As I write this note our production team is busy below my office bumping in our next Cameo show Moth, by award winning Australian playwright Declan Greene. Rachel Chant (The Village Bike, Bondi Feast Festival) is directing this one and it’s a brilliant play that no teens or their friends should miss. Parents, this is a great one for you too! Tickets are selling fast, so get in quick.
Also coming up are two brilliant fundraising events for ATYP. Did you know that we give 10% of all our workshop places away as scholarships to young Australians from disadvantaged backgrounds? That’s nearly 300 young people a year accessing ATYP’s programs thanks to the generosity of our donors. To support them, we’ve got our popular Celebrity Play Reading that this year includes Jay Laga’aia, Ben Mingay and Penny Cook reading a play that is written for 10–13 year-old performers. Taking place on September 12, it’s always a hilarious night.
Then, on October 12 it’s THE FINAL COUNTDOWN! A brand new ATYP games night for 18+’s only! 80’s themed, there will be a three-course meal, trivia games, auction items and a live 1980’s cover band with a lead singer you may or may not recognise! ;) Supported by our friends at Walsh Bay Arts and Commerce, Optimiste Wines and City of Sydney, get a team together and join us for the fun!
Ok – I have to run. We’re in the final stages of preparation for our 2018 brochure, a year that will be unlike any other in the history of the company, and I’m keen to send it to print so we can share with you all the incredible programs we’re rolling out next year!
See you at The Wharf!
